Two men were arrested and two bthers were reported to have escaped when police raided an alleged gam- bling establishment on the second of S street. Ten telephones, allegedly used in taking race bets, and a quan- tity of racing slips were cohfiscated. The men arrested were William J. Harvey, 42, of the 2100 block of G street, and Joseph T. Tilghman, 41, of [the 1700 block of Fourteenth stieet. They were charged with setting up a gaming table and teleased on $2,000 bond each. Police also raided an alleged num- bers game headquarters in the 400 block of Florida avenue late yesterday and seized a large quantity of nuin- ber®slips. No arrests were made, how-, | ever. ALEXANDRIA FILES INJUNCTION REPLY City Cites Menace to Health and Future Growth in Pro- posed Excavations. | By a Staff Correspondent of The Star. ALEXANDRIA, Va, September. 20. —An answer to the injunction suit entered against the City of Alexandria by the West Bros. Brick Co. to re- strain the city from preventing its removal of a 19-foot stratum of clay from a large area of land owned by. the company was filed in the Circuit Court here yesterday. Judge Walter T. McCarthy ordered representatives of the city and the company to take depositions in the case before the injunction plea is heard by him. In answer to the injunction plea, Gity Attorney Carl Bufiwesky cited the menace to health and safety of the proposed excavation, and stated that it would seriously retard both residential and industrial develop- ment of that section of the city. DIXIE IS REFLOATED FROM FRENCH REEF Liner Grounded in Hurricane to Be Towed to Miami Before Going to New Yori By the Associated Press. . MIAMI, Fla, September 20.—The Morgan liner Dixie, driven aground on French Reef, south of Miami, by the Labor day hurricane which lashed | the Plorida keys, was refloated early yesterday. . Capt. E. W. Sundstorm, master of the 8,100-ton luxury coastal vessel, radioed the Associated Press the terse message: “Dixie refloated 1 a.m. nineteenth.” ‘The message contained no other details as to how the two big salvage tugs, which had hawsers on the ship, succeeded in dragging her back into deep water.
