B the Assoclated Press NEW YORK, September 20.—Dun & Bradstreet in its weekly review of business and industry said today that favorable influences this week enabled the Fall season to gather momentum. | “The auspicious start which the Fall season made last week has been enabled to gather momentum rapidly | under the favoring influences of ex- panding consumer income and low inventory positions” the review said. | Retail sales continued to rise, with a wider variety of merchandise in- | cluded in the demand, which leaned | strongly toward quality goods. “Rising quotations and under- | estimated consumers’ requirements forced merchants into wholesale mar- | kets to fill broken lines and to cover as far as possible. H “In contrast to the declining trend | a year ago, industrial operations were set higher.” The survey found that the out- standing gains of the week in the| retail field were scored by women's wear, men’s clothing and hats, dry goods and shoes. | Although trade turned slower in some districts with the advent of warmer weather, the survey said, the average gain for the country ranged from -0 to 22 per cent over the corre- sponding period of 1934. In wholesale markets gains were | found up to 25 and 30 per cent n year. Marked Revival Forecast. NEW YORK, September 20 (Spe- cial).—Notwithstanding uncertainties created during the Summer by the abrogation of N. R. A. codes, adverse lower court decisions on the process- ing tax and prolonged delay in an- nouncing the new loan policy on cot- ton, Indications are that the textile | trades will enjoy a sound and marked revival in both operations and profits | this Fall, according to a current sur- | vey by the Standard Statislics Co. of New York. | Excepting only a relatively few ** | small mills, the majority of textile, units have retained code regulazwns on maximum hours of operation and | | minimum wages, and no early break- down is likely. Compromise pro- | visions in sales contracts have been | adopted to offset the possibility of an adverse Supreme Court decision on the cotton processing tax, while the reduced loan on the present cotton crep has permitted lower raw material costs for cotton mills. Fall Buying Broadens, Elimination of these unseit fluences. together with the unus v low level of inventories in distributor hands, has led to a broad buying movement for necessary Fall require- ments, and a strong textile demand at least through October is expected. The general textile price structure likewise should remain firm to slightly higher. As compared with the June low point, it is estimated that textile ac- | ttvity will expand about 20 per cent by the end of October. For the four | | months ending with October a mm-| parative yearly gain of 35 per cent is| dicated, — i INVESTING COMPANIES | YORK.
