Costlow, 59, for 27 years an employe of the Bureau of Ordnance, Navy Department, died Friday in Ver- montville, N. Y., according to word | received here. He had been spending the Summer at Vermontville, his | birthplace and home for many years. Mr. Costlow, who lived in Wash- ington at 20 Vermont avenue north- east, was a graduate of the Albany Business College in New York. Be- fore coming to Washington in 1908, he conducted a business college of his own at Malone, N. Y. He retired from the Navy Department in 1930. His widow, Mrs. Adda Costlow, sur- vives. DE FORCE DIES IN PASADENA Father of James A. De Force of Capital Was Victim of Stroke. James Lyndes De Force, 77, retired Northern Pacific Rallway official and father of James A. De Force, Washing- ton insurance agent, died yesterday at his home in Pasadena, Calif. He had been ill for nearly three years. Death followed a paralytic stroke two weeks ago. Mr. De Force was born in Erie, Pa. sively and worked in a variety of oc- cupations. He engaged in hotel, min- ing and railroad activities in Montana for a number of years. He served for 40 years with the Northern Pacific Raflway and was retired in 1923.
