By the Associated Press NEW YORK, August 13.—Higher prices for railroad obligations, particu- larly those in the medium-priced brackets, contrasted with irregular- ity in other sections of the bond market today. United States Government issues were uniformly lower, with losses in some instances running to as < much as a quarter of a point. Gains of more than a point were held by Delaware & Hudson 4s, Nickel Plate 5%s New York, Ontario & Western refunding 4s and Southern Railway consolidated 5s. - I.ESS COTTONSEED CRUSHED IN YEAR| Total of 3,549,383 Tons Compares With 4,156,977 Reported for Preceding Season. By the Associated Press. Cottonseed crushed in the cotton vear which ended July 31 was re- ported today by the Census Bureau to have totaled 3,549,383 tons, com= pared with 4,156,911 the previous year. Cottonseed on hand at mills July 81 totaled 91,119 tons, compared with 222761 a year ago. Cottonseed products manufactured in the year and on hand July 31 were: Crude oil produced. 1,108.486.353 pounds, compared with 1,302,785,815, and on hand, 27,187.350 pounds, com- pared with 34.400.287. Refined oil produced, 1,068.366,767 pounds. compared with 1,196.624,010, and on hand, 446,641,114 pounds, com- pared with 656.804,830. Following sharp advances in the two preceding weeks the general level of wholesale commodity prices ad- vanced 0.5 per cent In the week ended | August 10, according to the index of the National Fertilizer Association. This index rose to 78.8 per cent of the 1926-1928 average, reaching the | highest level so far attained in the recovery period which began in March, 1933, and the highést point since the last week in 1930. A week ago the index was 78.4, a month ago 77.4 and 9 | a year ago 74.0. The advance in the index in the latest week was due almost entirely to higher prices for farm products and foods, with the grains, feeds and live stock index showing the largest The most important rise in farm product prices was the sharp advance in hog quotations, which reached the high- est level since 1929; corn, hay, cattle and iambs also moved upward during | the week.
