Funeral services for Clara Hill, the ‘Washington sculptress whose work has been given a place at Corcoran Art Gallery and other institutions here, were to be Leld a: 3 o'clock this after- noon from Gawler Puneral Chapel, 1754 Pennsylvania avenue. Miss Hill died suddenly Sunday night at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fenton Padeley, 1736 Holly street. Her work is well known here and in New York, where she maintained a studio. Miss Hill was the pupil of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. She also worked under Puech at Jullan Academy and Injalbert at Colarossi Academy. Miss Hill was a member of the Washington Society of Artists and the Washington Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Engravers. Housewives of Dublin, Irish Free State, are demanding household elec- ! tric refrigerators. THOMAS M. THYSON, 90, BORN IN DISTRICT, DIES Funeral Services Held at War- renton, With Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. WARRENTON, Va., July 9.—Funeral services were held in St. John’s Cath- olic Church this morning for Thomas M. Thyson, who died Sunday in the Fauquier Hospital, in his 90th year. Mr. Thyson was & native of Wash- ington and came to this county in 1900, living at first on a farm near Warrenton. He leaves three children, P. E. Thyson and Miss May Thyson, Warrenton, and Bernard Thyson of Florida. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Washington. Church Carnival to Organize. ‘The annual organization meeting for the Holy Name Church carnival will be held at 8 o'clock tonight in the church auditorium, Eleventh and K streets northeast. Rev. John W. Dowling and John B. Irving, president of the church's Holy Name Society, will preside. Committees are to be selected to direct the forthcoming church carnival. Yort, vice president of the Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Co., #nd a widely known figure in local and national insurance circles, died last night at Garfield Hospital. Mr. Yort had been in failing health for several months, but remained at his desk until recently, when he was ad- mitted to the hospital for treatment. Mr. Yort was in charge of the field department of Acacia and also a director. Born in Denmark. { Born October 22, 1879, in Denmark, Mr. Yort was educated at the Univer- sity of Copenhagen, specializing in advanced mathematical and statistical studies. He held the posts of assistant actuary, secretary, field superintend- ent and actuary with leading Danish life insurance companies during the years 1904 to 1913, and held mem- bership in Danish actuarial societies. Prom 1914 to 1916 Mr. Yort served as actuary with the Continental Life In- surance Co. of Utah, Jjoining the Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Co. here in 1917, also as actuary. In 1919 he was in addition named secretary of the company. In 1932 he was elected vice president. He was a member of the American Institute of Actuaries and the Fra- ternal Actuarial Society. He also held membership in the following clubs and the lodges: Congressional Coun- try Club, Columbia Country Club, Osiris Lodge, No. 26, F. A. A, M; s Albert Pike Consistory, M. R. 8.; Danish Club. Funeral Thursday. Mr. Yort is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Yort; a son, Sven, a daughter, Helen; by two sisters, Jenny and Marie, and two brothers, Gustav and Christian, who reside in Denmark. Mr. Yort'’s home was at 7201 Mead- ow Lane, Chevy Chase, Md. William Montgomery, president of Acacia, announced that the offices of the company would be closed next Thursday, the day of the funeral. Officers and directors of the com- pany will attend in a body. MAX ARNOLD, RETIRED BUSINESS MAN, DIES, Funeral Services Held Friday at Oxon Hill, Md.—Was Dem- ocratic Leader. Max Arnold, 58, retired business man, died at the home of his daughter, Miss Celia Arnold, 4912 Third street, | Friday, and was buried the same day at Oxon Hill, Md. He had been in ill | health for five months. For years Mr. Arnold made his home | in Brentwood, Md., and was an active | member of the Chilum District Demo- cratic Club during his residence there. Mann, 72, retired scientific instrument maker at the Bureau of Standards and for many years an outstanding civic leader in Arlington County, will be held at his home, 2123 North Monroe street, this afternoon st 5 o’clock. Mr. Mann died of pneumonia, Sundav morning at his home, following an llness of 10 days. Briet services will also be held at| - the Lee funeral parlors, where the body will be taken for cremation. Burial will be private. Mr. Mann, a native of Germany, came to this country in 1886. In 1903 he came to Washington to take a position in the Bureau of Standards. He served there continuously until three years ago, when he was retired. Of recognized ability in research work, Mr. Mann served for a time as chair- man of the Arlington County Ctvic Federation’s Committee on Revenues and Expenditures. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Karoline Haefner Mann, and a daughter, Miss Sophie C. Mann.
