NEW YORK, June 19.—With the exception of utilities, curb market stocks gave ground rapidly under a flurry of selling among mining shares in the closing hour today. NEW YORK, June 19.—Continuing to reflect a seasonal shrinkage in orders, steel industry operations have dropped 13; percentage points to 38 per cent of capacity, Iron Age re- ported in its weekly summary today. Declining operations, the summary pointed out, have given producers an added incentive to maintain present prices, since the low output entails higher costs. “However, pressure against the price structure has not been nearly so severe as was feared when the steel code was nullified, and the propensity —~ of buyers to postpone purchases is of diminishing importance as a market factor,” it said. “Pig iron buying is in larger volume, though still at close range.
