The total for the 22 leading cities in the United States for the week ended Wednesday, June 12, as T by Dun & Bradstrest, Inc., was $4,776,778,000, against $4,599,282,- 000 for the same week of last year, an increase of 3.9 per cent. This con- trasted with a gain of 108 per cent for the two preceding weeks. At New York City clearings were $3,116,783,- 000, which was slightly below the amount reported last year, while the aggregate for centers outside of New York of $1,659,995,000 was 12 per cent higher. Clearings were substantially higher at most of the leading cities in the West and the South. At Boston and Philadelphia the increases were not so large as at most other points. Clearings the past week exceeded those of the short week preceding by $51,318,000, whereas a year ago there was a reduction of $415,777,000 for the two full weeks with which com- parison is made.
