UTILITY MEASURE ATTACK RENEWED Head of Executives’ Group Declares Bill Would Crip- ple Industry. By the Associated Press. In a renewed attack on the Wheeler- Rayburn bill to abolish and regulate utility holding companies, Philip H. Gadsden, chairman of the Committee of Public Utility Executives, yesterday declared enactment of the bill would “cripple the light and power industry and place it in the hands of a Federal bureaucracy.” His talk, broadcast nationally, was one of a series of protests poured out last week following the Senate In- terstate Commerce Committee's re- port that the bill as redrafted prom- ised to salvage the pest from the sys- tem in a way to “strengthen the mar- ket for utility securities generally.” The new draft of the bill has been reported to the Senate by the Inter- state Commerce Committee and, since it is among the President’s “must” legislation, Chairman Wheeler has A Pose Without a Note 1 | expressed the view it will be called up | for consideration soon. So decisively opposed to the bill was | Gadsden that he branded the redraft | & “sop to the public” aimed at “be- trayal” of public confidence. “Only the force of public opinion can check the swinging hammer of those who seek to destroy,” he said, in appealing for national support. “Only you as part of the American people can cry halt to this havoc. Now—tonight—in this very hour— write to the President of the United States and to the Senators from your State urging them to oppose the pub- lc utilities bill. Taken a pen and a piece of paper and send your message at once. To the will of the American people, even Washington must bow.” . GIVEN NEW POST J.
