B—6 LAW OF IROQUOIS DETECTED SLAYER Indian Lore Expert Finds Murderer Had to Stay With Victim. By the Associated Press. A decline,in the killer mark Hewitt, Smithsonian Institution ex- pert on Indian lore. This law of the great five Eastern Indian tribes, just uncovered by Dr. Hewitt, made finding slayers the easi- est thing in the world. For the murdered had to stay by the body of his victim until the au- thorities discovered him. Here is the way the system oper- ated as described by Dr. Hewitt: If a murderer tried to escape. he could be killed by any member of the victim's clan. In a small tribe he could not hope to conceal his identity. If he fled hie would be a marked man and soon killed as an outlaw. But if he stayed by the body a wampum settlement probably would be made for the life of the victim if | by the murderer’s own relatives. George O'Connor and his troubadors will entertain at a performance to be given by the Ladies of Charity at the Willard Hotel March 21 for the bene- fit of a milk fund for destitute chil- dren. The entertainment will begin at 8:30 p.m. All proceeds from the benefit will be used to purchase milk for under- privileged children, many of whom are tubercular. Mrs, George O'Connor is president of the Ladies of Charity. Mrs. Harry P. Somerville is in charge of tickets for the affair. PROM SATURDAY NIGHT Newman Club"to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s day will be celebrated by the Newman Club, Catholic student organiaztion at George Washington University, with a formal shamrock prom to be held at the National Wom- en’s Country Club, in Maryland, Sat- urday night.
