UPPER MARLBORO, Md., January 8.—James Robert Ridgely, 74, uncle of Miss Catherine A. Ridgley, secretary to the Prince Georges County Com- missioners, died suddenly Sunday night at Kinsale, his ancestral home, near here. A retired farmer, Mr. Ridgley was the,son of the late Nichols Arrick and Ann Elizabeth Thomas Ridgely. He served as an election official and road supervisor many years ago. At one time he was connected with the Mary- land Census Bureau. He is survived by a brother, John Ridgely. and a sister, Mrs. Mary Wyvlll, and & number of nieces and nephews. Rogers, landscape archi- tect with the National Park Service, in charge of the landscaping of 8ky- line .Drive in the Luray area, died Sunday at his home, 102 Quincy street, Chevy Chase, Md. Mr. -Rogers, a native of New Bed- ford, Mass., had lived in Washington since 1929, when he came here as a landscape architect with the Maryland- National Capital Park and Planning Commission, with which he remained until 1932. ‘When Mr. Rogers received his B.S. from the Massachusetts State College in Amherst, Mass., the United States had just entered the World War. He joined the-service and served two| years with the A. E. F. in France. When the war was over, he remained in France for a time, studying at the Beaux Arts in Paris. Returning to Ambherst, he took his M. L. A. degree from the State College in 1922, and was made assistant professor of horti- culture, In 1925 and 1926 he was in Albania. directing the landscaping of the Albanian-American School of Agri- culture in Burazzo. On his retum, he was for two years in partnersbip with H. V. Sampson enured the Army as a private during the Philip- sioned a second lieutenant of Infantry in 1902. During the World War Col. Sampson served as division quartermaster of the 92d Division, although he was i not officially transferred from the In- |fantry to the Quartermaster Corps until 1920. Col. Sampson graduated from the Army Industrial College here in 1927, and for four years thereaiter was at- tached to the Quartermaster General's Office here. d His widow, Mrs. Katherine W.
