HUNT| | s in Avisona OF ARIZONA DIES Seven-Term Chief Executive Succumbs After lliness of Two Weeks. By the Associated Press. PHOENIX, Arnz, December 25— The colorful career of former Gov. George Wiley Paul Hunt, 75, of Ari- zona, was ended in death today. The one-time waiter, cowboy and copper mine mucker, who was chief executive of the State for seven terms, died yesterday after an illmess of two weeks. Physicians said heart disease was the immediate cause of death. Mr. Hunt was “broke” when he came to Arizcna in 1881 from his birthplace, Huatsville, Mo. He rose to the presidency of the Old Dominion Commercial €o. Active in politics and in the fight for ratification of the State constitution, he was elected Arizona’s first Governor in 1911. His sevenih term ended in 1932, and he was defeated for an eighth term last Fall by the incumbent, Gov. B. B. Moeur. Simple fun.ral services were held yesterday afternoon for Dan de Soun. reporter for The Star and of the Washington Newspaper uuud who was killed in an automobile ac- cident Saturday night while taking Christmas toys to the children of smkln‘ newspaper men at Newark, The services were held in the chapel of C. J. Ives at Clarendon, Va. and were attended by District oflclll.l, committees from the National Press Club, the Washington Newspaper Club and many reporters who had worked with De Souza. ‘The services were conducted by the guild, for which Robert Buck, vice president of the American Newspaper Guild, was spokesman. Two eulogies were given, one by Buck for the guild, and another by Ben McKelway, news editor of The Star, who spoke for De Souza's superiors and associates on The Star. Henderson Dies After Heart Attack—Was 32d Degree Mason. William G. Henderson, 72, well known patent lawyer here for nearly half a century and a prominent Ma- son, died suddenly last night after a heart attack at his home, 1822 Third street northeast. Mr. Henderson, a native of Wash- ington, had been an active member of the Washington Board of Trade and had served as a delegate to the Federation of Citizens’ Associations from the North Capitol and Eckington Association, of which he had been president several times. He was a past master of New Jerusalem Lodge, No. 9. and in 1900 was grand master of District Masons. He had achieved the thirty-second degree. Besides his widow, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. N. C. Bowles of New York, and Mrs. R. H. Brodie, Mrs. C. P. Carpenter and Miss Shirley D. Henderson, all of Washington.
