Both WRC and WMAL will broadcast the opera from 2:45 to . Another will be a gala 2-hour and 45-minute Christmas pageant on WJSV starting at 2:30. Features will include the radio debut of Lionel Barrymore in the role of Scrooge in Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” and contributions by Ethel Shutta, the Don Cossack Russian Male Chorus, Mme. 3chumann - Heink, Kathryn Kitwer and Victor Young's Orchestra. Christmas celebrations of the “Lt- tle Nations” of Manhattan, prepared by Italian, German, French and Hungarian groups, will be broadcast by WOL under the title of “Around Manhattan” from 4 to 5. Bing Crosby will present Irene Taylor, “Blues Singer,” and Charles Bourne, eccentric pianist, as guest stars on his program over WJSV from 9 to 9:30. Victor Herbert's “Babes in Toy- land” and Christmas carols will be highlights of the Beauty Box Theater presentation on WRC at 10. “Little Madcap's Journey,” a play written especially for children by Mrs. Larz Anderson, will be broadcast by WOL from 7:36 to 8. A group, e self-styled train- whistle imitator, and other odd performers, will troop to the microphone in the Columbia studios in New York in the premiere broad- cast of the first Nation-wide ama- teur broadcast. ‘Under the guiding hand of Ray Perkins, in the role of master of ceremonies, with Arnold Johnson di- recting his orchestra, the amateur artists will take <o the air over the Columbia network Sunday from 6 to 6:30 pm. Nine performers have been chosen to participate. ‘They are the Four Tempos, a mixed vocal quartet from Brooklyn; John Garrett, 50, the train-whistle imi- tator; the Four Spots of Rhythm, colored instrumental quartet of Har- lem; Donald MacDonald, pharma- cist, who will play e bagpipe solo; Albert Hertz, butcher, who will sing; Helen Jeffery of Dallas, Tex.; Walter Edwards of Bridgeport, Conn., who aspires to become a radio announcer; Lucille Graham, switchboard operator of Yonkers, N. VIRGINIA CHARGES MAN WITH ABDUCTING GIRL Warrant Held for Donald Ma- haney Reported to Have Been Arrested at Phoenix, Ariz. By the Associated Press. RICHMOND, Va., December 25— Capt. A. 8. Wright, police detective head, announced he was holding a warrant for Donald Mahaney, re- ported under arrest in Phoenix, Ariz. Mahaney.is charged with abducting Clara Finley, 13-year-old ward of the Children's Home Society of Vir- ginia. Wright said that as soon as Gov. Peery signs extradition papers, Sergt. L. M. Reid will go to Phoenix and return Mahaney to Richmond. Both Mahaney and the girl were being held in Phoenix, Wright was informed. Ballston Meeting Postponed.
