B—12 MEXICO INCREASES SERVICE FOR NEWS Five Leading Papers Con- nected With A. P. by Government Wires. By the Associated Prese. MEXICO, D. F., December 3.—What s described by editors as one of the most important steps in the history of Mexican journalism was taken to- | night when five of the leading news- | papers in interior cities were con- nected with the offices of the Asso- ciated Press in this city by means of | a system of direct wires and printers leased from the Mexican government. The new system will offer a solu- tion to what for many years has been the principal burden of newspapers outside the capital—unsatisfactory communications due to lack of proper facilities. Contract Signed. Installation by the government of | a network of copper wires on all its| principal lines and the purchase of | automatic printer equipment made possible the signing of a contract be- tween the Associated Press and the | Department of Communications and Public Works for the new service. The five papers, El Informador of | Guadalajara, El Siglo of Torreon, El| Porvenir of Monterrey, El Mundo of ! Tampico and Ei Dictamen of Vera Cruz, receive extensive international | and national news reports by means of high speed printers installed in the offices of the Associated Press and in their editorial rooms. The printers send approximately three times the | volume of news previously received by the papers. Foreign news is selected from the | complete news report received every District of Columbia—Cloudy, fol- lowed by rain tonight and tomorrow; not much change in temperature, minimum temperature tonight about 38 degrees; moderate northeast and east winds.
