' AR, WASHINGTON, IDLE FUNDS GROW ATWORLD CENTERS Trend of High-Grade Bonds in U. S. and Britain Is Indication. | By the Associated Press. | NEW YORK, November 27.—The accumulation in leading financial | centers of the world of huge amounts . !of idle investment funds, seeking an outlet in international trade chan- grade bonds in several countries, es- pecially the United States and Great Britain. The recent performance of British | 2!, per cent consols, which advanced more than 10 points to above 91, the highest price since 1905, has been D, Q. nels, is indicated by the trend of high- | TUESDAY, around 2.98 per cent, and compares | with the all-time low of 2.72 per cent | established last July. In a study of the trend in British consols, Moody’s Investment Survey says that while a number of factors, including the recent fears over the position of the gold standard coun- tries, might have been partly respon- sible for the extended advance, other developments have been taking place in England for several months which had greater influence on investment sentiment. Porticular reference is made to the policy of the British government in refunding part of its floating debt, thereby reducing the treasury bill holdings of banks and broadening the demand for long-term govern- | ment obligations in view of the still | limited amount of private security | flotations. The accumulation of investment | capital, it is contended, is still con- fined to the boundaries o findividual countries, and is still, in part, pro- | duced by artificial means. | A release of this accumulated cap- | | ital into international trade channels | ‘on a large scale must await a resto- ration of more stable world exchange conditions. NOVEMBER 27, 1934 WHOLESALE INDEX DECLINES SLIGHTLY Fertilizer Association Finds Drop of Only a Point During Week. ‘Wholesale commodity prices were fairly steady during the latest week, according to the index of the Na- | tional Fertilizer Association. Frazier Jelke & Co.—With a holi- day near at hand, profit-taking in stocks which have enjoyed good re- coveries may give the list a degree of irregularity. Hornblower & Weeks—It is not to be expected that the recovery move- ment will continue at the rapid pace experienced since Friday Jackson Bros., Boesel & Co.—We do not expect any reaction that might occur in the near future to cancel more than two-thirds of the Novem- ber rise Shields & Co.—Buying should be limited to periods of reactions. while quick bulges will give opportunity for lightening holdings.
