ROOSEVELT HAILS FORESTRY RESULTS Corps Called Great Peace- Time Movement in Greet- ing to Workers. Creation of the Civillan Conservation Corps, which is employing a quarter of a million young men in national park areas, is looked upon by President Roosevelt as one of the greatest peace- time movements this country has ever seen and as a vital step in the Nation's fight against the depression. President Roosevelt so expressed him- self in a brief message of greeting to the Civilian Conservation Corps printed in “Happy Days,” an authorized weekly newspaper of the corps. The President’s message of greeting follows in full: “I welcome the opportunity to ex- tend, through the medium of the col- umns of ‘Happy Days’ a greeting to the men who constitute the Civilian Conservation Corps. Congratulations Extended. * “Congratulations are due those re- sponsible for the successful accomplish- ment of the gigantic task of creating the camps, arranging for the enlist- ments and for launching the greatest peace-time movement this country has ever seen. “It is my belief that what is bein accomplished will conserve our nation: resources, create future national wealth and prove of moral and spiritual value, not only to those of you who are taking part, but to the rest of the country as well. “You young men who are enrolled in this work are to be congratulated as well. It is my honest conviction that what you are doing in the way of con- structive service will bring to you, per- sonally and individually, returns the value of which it is difficult to esti- mate. Opportunities Increasing. “Physically fit as demonstrated by the examinations you took before en- tering the camps, the clean life and hard work in which you are engaged cannot fail to help your physical con- dition and you should emerge from this experience strong and rugged and ready for a re-entrance into the ranks of industry better equipped than before. “Opportunities for employment in work for which individually you are best suited are increasing dally and you should emerge from this experience splendidly fitted to enter the competi- tive fleld of endeavor which always marked the industrial life of America. “I want to congratulate you on the opportunity you have and to extend to you my appreciation for the hearty co- operation which you have given this movement which is so vital a step in the Nation’s fight against the depres- sion and to wish you all a pleasant, wholesome and constructively helpful _stay in the woods.” CARNIVAL PLANNED Bt.
