? MARRIED WORKERS ' DISMISSAL UPHELD Justice Proctor Rules Gov- ernment Officials Have Right to Enforce Economy Act. (From the 5:30 Edition of Yesterday's Star.) The right of the heads of Govern- ment departments to enforce the mar- | ried persons clause of the economy act was upheld today by Justice James M. i Proctor of the District Supreme Court. The ruling of the court was handed down in the case of Mrs. Pearl G. Stansbury, a married employe in the Government Printing Office, who was threatened with the loss of her position because her husband is also in the Government service. Mrs. Stansbury had appealed to the court for an order restraining the public printer from dis- missing her as an_economy move. Justice Proctor beld that Congress, 1f it saw fit, had agthority to eliminate entirely the civil service laws, and that therefore, also had authority to modify them. The Government Was repre- sented by Assistant United States At- torney John Fihelly. Mrs. Stansbury has been employed at the Government Printing Office for 14 years and would be eligible for re- tirement next year. Her husband is employed at the Naval Air Station.
