NEW YORK, July 1.—Bank clearings‘ continue large in volume. The total this week at all leading cities in the | United States, as repcrted by Dun & | Bradstreet, Inc., of $4,766,699,000 was | 269 per cent higher than that of al year ago. At New York City clearings ‘were $3,460.038,000, an increase of 42.2 per cent, while the aggregate for centers | outside of New York of $1,306,661,000 ‘was 1.3 per cent lower. The increase at New York City, in part, measures heavier trading in stocks. Substantially larger clearings again ap- pear at Boston, and this week for the first time at Pittsburgh. Larger totals are also reported by St. Louis, Kansas | Minneapolis, Omaha, Atlanta, | Louisville, San Prancisco, | Portland and Seattle. Slight reductions | at Philadelphia, Chicago and some other | cities are without special significance. Clearings are now $761,916,000 below the heavy total of last week, but a year | ago the decline was $996.383,000. The more favorable showing this week is due largely to the heavier amount at New | York City. | Figures at leading centers, showing | increases and decreascs compared with | 0se of last year, are printed herewith; | also daily bank clearings each month for the year to date: (Totals in thousands.)
