A. head- quarters at Eighteenth and G streets this morning. James C. Ingram, camp director, and his staff of college-trained leaders were on hand to welcome the first two-week contingent. Jud P. Wilhoit, the third member of the board who has con- tinually sided with the Governor in his controversy with the board dating from April 1, was put in charge of the de- partment. The Governor, under military rule, notified the five engineers he had ordered discharged that they were out and the following day began to pay employes who received no money since the controversy began. Military guards still gnoed the high- ‘way board offices and the offices of the @tate treasurer, controller general and Governor in the Capitol Building. $25,000 Damage Suit. Gov. Talmadge's order to Adjt. Gen. Kindley Camp to escort a deputy sheriff from the Capitol Building while attempting to serve the Governor with urt paper resulted today in a $25,- 000 damage suit. " Deputy Sheriff Sidney C. Wooten of Fulton (Atlanta) County flled suit against the Governor and Gen. Camp for $25,000 damages, claiming his ar- rest by Gen. Camp on the order of the Governor was illegal and that he was fslsely imprisoned for an hour in the Governcr's office. ‘Wooten was seeking to serve a court order for a_temporary injunction grant- ed Capt. Barnett, then chairman of the Highway Board, and W. C. Vereen against the Governor, State Treasurer George B. Hamilton and Controller General Willlam B, Harrison, to pre- vent the withdrawal of more than $2,- §00,000 of highway funds in the State treasury. Immediately after the injunction suit was filed in Fulton Superior Court the Governor declared martial law over the Highway Department and certain of- fices in the Capitol. Representative McCarthy and _her husband, Daniel McCarthy, Kansas State legislator, left Washington today for their home, planning to stop & week at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago. Their trip, too, is something of a be- lated honeymoon and will _continue westward into Colorado from Kansas. They were married in February of this year. At first he was too busy in| the State Legislature for honeymooning and she helped him with his work there. ‘Then, she was too busy in Congress and he came to Washington when the Kansas Legislature adjourned and helped her. JUNTA DISSOLVED BY CUBAN LEADER Dr. De La Torre Adjourns Or- ganization to Create U. S. Favor of Change. By the Associated Press. : NEW YORK, June 23.—The Cuban revolutionary junta established nearly a year ago to create American senti- ment in favor of a governmental change in Havana, was virtually dissolved to- day as its president, Dr. Carlos de la ‘Torre, announced its adjournment sine die with full liberty of action to its members. The adjournment wa to permit those members of the junta who so desire, to join with opposition groups in Havana which have accepted a proposal to con- ciliate differences between President Machado and his opponents. The ABC group, a consolidation of all the secret opposition groups in Cuba, last week accepted mediatory in- tervention by United States Ambassador Welles. The organized professors of Havana University, closed three years ago after student riots and street demonstrations, have also accepted ‘Welles as mediator. MENOCAL SILENT. Former Cuban President Refuses Com- ment on Welles Mediation, MIAMI, Fla, June 23 (#).—Gen. Mario G. Menocal, former President of Cuba, remained silent here last night n proposals that the anti-Machado forces he leads should accept mediation of Ambassador Sumner Welles in solving the island’s political problems.
