Diplomas were presented to 318 four- year-course graduates of Eastern High School in commencement exercises pre- sided over last night by Dr. Stephen| E. Kramer, first assistant superintend- | ent of schools The Eastern commencement was | marked by the presentation of awards | to deserving graduates by Charles Hart, | principal of the school. First on the scholastic achievement list was Jean- nette Bell Feliman, who elected the cholarship to Strayer College when % developed her credits lacked the mathematics exacted by George Wash- ington University, whose scholaTship she had earned. The George Wash- ington University scholarship was pre- sented to Alice Elizabeth Corridon, who stood third on the list of honor grad-| uates. The Theta Pi alumni award of $5C in cash, which sum must be used in | the pursuit of further education, was | presented to Virginia Colton Moore. Other Honors Awarded. The Michigan University honor roll award was presented to Willie C. O'Steen, for girls, and to David G. Sprinkle for boys. Daniel F. Frantz won the general efficiency award and Donald Cupp Beale won the orchestra award. The Alumni Association medals to the boy and girl who have done most for their school were presented to Jean Laurie Tolson and Frank Waikart. Waikart, who was graduated last Feb- ruary, is a post-graduate student and is the first February class member to be accorded the Alumni Association’s recognition. Awards also were given to the grad- uates who have maintained perfect at- tendance records by not missing a sin- gle day of school, and by not being tardy once during the four-year course. Recipients of this honor were Charlotte Elizabeth Simmons, who not only maintained a perfect attendance record at Eastern, but who has had such a record for 11 years: Virginia Colton Moore, Catherine Louise Shehan, Lil- lian Estelle Wild, Walter Martin Guy, John Haje, Prank Gold Lindsay, Charles Bernard Orcutt and James Edward Reeves. The commencement program Wwas opened by the invocation of Rev. W. R. Moody of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
