Between 41 and 46 Per Cent of Gains in Securities Believed Due to Dollar’'s Depreciation. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, June 22 —A Stock Ex- change house that has given a great deal of attention to the effect of infla- tion on the rise in securities figured out today that this has been less than pop- ularly supposed. It shows the price ad- | vance in terms of dollars and the theoretical price advance in terms of goid. In dollars the rise in industrials since | March 3 has been about 78 per cent, in | rails over 80 per cent, in utilities 65 per cent and in commodities about 49 per cent. In terms of gold the advance in industrials amounts to 45 per cent, i rails to 47 per cent, in utilities to nea 35 per cent and in commodities only 21 per_cent. From this it is calculated that the per cent of advance due to inflation is between 41 and 46 per cent of the en- tire rise, so far as securities are con- cerned, and less than 60 per cent with respect to commodities. NEW YORK, June 22.—The manufacturing business is one of the brightest spots in the industrial picture. Both American Can and Continental Can, the biggest units in the industry, are doing an excellent business. The affairs of Continental Can are in such good shape that it would not be surprising if the management in the near future increased the regular divi- dend or decided to declare an extra out of the better profits. Continental Can is understood to have taken advantage of its strong cash fon early this year to buy a large pply of tin plate at what proved to be about the lowest level of prices. RAYON MILLS BEHIND WITH FLOOD OF ORDERS By the Associated Press NEW YORK, June 22.—Many of the | large rayon m are sold up to such an extent that they cannot promise de- liveries until September and October.
