| BROEWANTSD.G. LAWS REDRAFTED Corporation Counsel Says Present Statutes and Reg- ulations Need Revision. THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. O. Appointment of a special commission to direct an entire redrafting of the District code of laws and the several volumes of regulations of the District Commissioners will be urged on Con- gress by Corporation Counsel W. W. Bride, 5 ‘The city counsel said yesterday he would make this recommendation in the next few days when he expects to be called as a witness before members of the committees of the House and Senate who have undertaken a rather general study cf the operation of the District government. Favors Commission. ‘Mr. Bride said his experience as cor- poration counsel for a period of nearly six years has shown clearly the need of & modernization of the legal code and the voluminous city regulations. He sald he would propose that a special commission of a limited number be appointed to direct this work, rather | than to ask District officials themselves to handle the comprehensive study. He said the work could not be done ex- peditiously by District officlals because :f the requirements of their regular luties. Many Need Attention. Mr. Bride said all the existing vol- umes of District regulations should be given an overhaulinng. Many of them now, he said, are in antiquated form which causes handicaps in their inter- pretation and enforcement. He men- tioned police, health, 3zoning, traffic, sanitary, plumbing and zoning - as among those needing at- g | ten! hould be restudied, he added. The District government now has a E | committee charged with the duty of proposing & redraft of many of the vol- umes of regulations, but because of its other duties, Mr. Bride said, no effec- tive work has been done to date. ——— VETERANS OF Y.M.C.A. 2\ WILL HOLD REUNION - Exactly as Pictured Note: Smart : Ten-Leg Table 3 9 This $I39Ten-Piece Genuine Walnut Veneered A brand-new ten-piece suite of genuine walnut veneer on gumwood—a suite de- signed to impress even the most casual shopper, well built and nicely finished.
