Goetige, aide to President Roosevelt and also to Maj. Gen. Ben H. Fuller, Marine Corps commandant, and former foot ball star, yesterday was ordered to duty aboard the battleship U. 8. 8. Pennsylvania, effective early next month. Lieut. Ed- win J. Farrell has reported to relieve him as aide to Gen. Fuller. Capt. Goettge will become command- ing officer of the Marine detachment sboard the U. S. S. Pennsylvania, crack battleship of the American Navy and flagship of the United States Fleet. He will be detached June 5. Appointed aide to the late Maj. Gen. Commandant Wendell C. Neville and a White House aide in January, 1930, Capt. Goettge has on duty in ‘Washington continuously since. A'l' TlNTN Star Foot Ball Player, Officials said today that Capt. m ica. §s probably the best known foot ball man developed in the Marine Corps, which he entered from Ohlo University, Athens, Ohio, in May, 1917, while & freshman. He did not play foot ball while in college, they said, but his career while in on regimental and division teams after the armistice. In 19026 he played in the first of the Army-Marine games for the President’s Cup, and for several seasons was line coach and assistant coach for the Marine Corps team. Born 36 years ago in Canton, Ohio, Capt. Goettge served with the 5th Regiment of Marines in the Argonne Forest engagement during the World ‘War. He has likewise done duty. in Haiti and China. When Gen. the Pacific Capt. Goettge, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall, served as his aide. Farrell's Record. Lieut. Farrell, who will be available for White House duty also, is & native of Grand Rapids, Minn,, where he was born February 25, 1897. He came into the Marine Corps in April, 1918, first as an enlisted man, but was commissioned a second lieutenant in December of that year. In Haitli he served as aide to Brig. Gen. John H. Russell, American high commissioner — now assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. Lieut. Farrell held the rank of captain in the gendarmie of Haiti. He served at Quantico and Norfolk, Va., and at Galveston, Tex., a3 well as in the Vir- gin Islands. He was appointed a first lieutenant in November, 1922. Recently Lieut. Farrell has served in tico as aide to the commanding r, Brig. Gen. Harry Lee.
