CHICAGO, May 5.—The Federal Governmen: stepped in to help today! as Chicago business men began organ- izing to break the grip of racketeers on | leq:mlte industry. e district attorney's office seized the books of the Chicago Teamsters' Undon, allegedly operated by outlaw oi- ficers for two years, to search for cvi: dence on which to base income tax' evasion charges. | Ccorge Roy Baker, asserted to be the duly elected president, tcok over the ! union with the aid of six followers iwo days ago and ousted John Shcridan, declaring him an agent of “Publi Egemy” Murray Humphreys and oth- ker declared the gangsters had taken hundreds of thousands of dol- lags from the union, and Government {mucumn pianned the same action as hat which sent Al Capone and others to _prison. At the State capital progress was re- ported toward pzssing a bill providing life imprisonment for bombers. Pre- diciions were made that the bidl would become law in a week, but thus far no bombers have been convicted. Chicago officlals said such a law would curb the reign of terror in which 41 bombs have been exploded with in- juries and thousands of dollars lost since January 1. They did not explain why bombers still went free. NOTED MUSIC TUTOR, PIETRO MINETTI, DIES Oldest Member of Peabody Fac- wulty, Baltimore, Was Chevalier of Italian Crown. By the Assoclated Press.
