By the Assoclated Press, NEW YORK, May 4.—Ninety-six years of continuous: service by one fam- | ily to the tribe of Sitting Bull, Sloux chieftain, will be concluded May 27, headquarters of the Congregational and Christian Churches announce. On that date Frederick B. Riggs will retire as principal of the Santee Indian Normal Training School, directed by the united denomiunation, at Santee, Nebr. Riggs is the grandson of Stephen R. and Mary Riggs, who went to the Sioux in 1837 as “foreign missionaries,” mak- ing their home 100 miles west of the site of Minneapolis. Moved to Nebraska. After the 1862 uprising the Santee branch of the Sioux were moved to Nebraska, the Rigges going along. Here, eight years later, their oldest son, Alfred, found the school, first of such institutions among the tribe. Alfred’s oldest son, Frederick, now re- tiring because he has reached the de- nomination’s age limit, 68, became prin- cipal in 1916. He will be succeeded by Rudolph Hertz, who has been superin- tendent of the denomination’s Indian churches, with headquarters at Eagle Butte, S. Dak. OPERETTA .SCHEDULED Two Performances to Be Held at Roosevelt High. ‘Two performances instead of one will be given of Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta, “The Pirates of Penzance,” at Roosevelt High School Auditorium, it was announced by the Community Center Department. The dates will be May 9 and 10 for these presentations by the Estelle Wentworth Opera Group.
