Other employes already had taken wage reductions. Eighty neighborhood theaters sét the pace last SBaturday when they shut down in retaliation for a refusal of the operators’ union to accept a wage re- duction reported as nearly 50 per cent of the present scale. ‘The first and second-run downtown houses “requested” the three unions to accept a 25 per cent cut. The unions asked more time to consider the ques- tion and the theater managers replied that, if an acceptance was not recéived by Thursday, they would close their doors. MAY CLOSE AT INDIANAPOLIS. Theater Owners Say Dwindling Re- ceipts Determined Course. INDIANAPOLIS, March 17 (P).— ©Owners and managers of local motion plcture theaters yesterday announced they expected all Indianapolis theaters to close Friday, March 24. In a statement issued following a conference, they said they adopted this course because of dwindling re- reported failure of negotiations with officers of the local operators’ union for adjustment of contracts which expire next September.
