We have taken too many hens. ‘We have been hunted once and we are likely to be hunted again by dogs and men with terrible s. And now a trapper is doing his best to catch us. I tell you it isn’t safe around here.” “It is & long journey back to the Old Pasture,” said Reddy. “Any it is a long journey to make on lhn‘e legs. I tell you what, my dear, we will move out of the old barn back to some sheltered place in the hills where that trapper won't find us. That will give me a_chance to use this leg some nnd get the stiffness out of it. Then e’ll go back to our heme in the Old | P"<mrn So it was agreed and the old bam was deserted that very night. | trapper didn't discover this for seu‘r’\h days. When at last he became sure that that home under the floor of the barn had been deserted he began to lay other plans, for he was a smart trapper and wise in the ways of the little people of the Green Forest and the Green Meadows. By this time he had discovered by footprints that there had been two Foxes in that den under the barn and this explained in part why he had been unsuccessful with his traps. “It was two against one.” said he as he thought it over. “Prob- ably there always was one at home while I was setting my traps with such care and so it was a waste of time. ‘Those Foxes have become worried and have left here. The thing for me to do now is try to trap them on their hunting grounds. They are a smart pair and T vull have to use all the skill I posses: First he spem a couple of days tramping the woods and pastures all around that section, noting every sign that would indicate the presence of Foxes and every place that looked like a good place to set a trap. Then he took & number of traps in a clean basket and handled them only with clean gloves on. This was so as to leave none of the man smell on them. With these he set out. Now, it was the very next night that Reddy and Mrs. Reddy, trotting along together, were suddenly halted by a scent that at once brought water to their mouths. It was the scent of Rabbit. Almost at once they saw t.hat Rabbit lying on the snow. It dead. There was no question lbou[ that. It was dead and it lay in a little clear space. Both Reddy and Mrs. idy were instantly suspicious. W‘hy should that Rabbit be lying there? SONNYSAYINGS that the sugar you and your family use is pure, clean, wholesome sugar.
