WASHINGTON, ROBIN LOSES J0B AS SPRING'S HERALD |5 Federal Authority Says Some Birds| Wi, Stay Here Through All Seasons. ‘The popular notion that the first Tobin always comes to Washington with | b Spring in all its glory tucked under 00 one wing, has received a rude and shat- tering setback. o less an authority than Col. H. P. Sheldon, chief of the Game and 'ba Bird Conservation Division of the De-| partment of Agriculture, came the ad- vice that what starts the sap to rhin(l and other phenomena of Springtimi has nothing to do with robins and the‘ subject of the relation of these birds and Springtime is one that belongs with the hen-and-egg question of ‘“which comes first?>” The Biological Survey would rather not discuss it further. Besides, says Col. Sheldon, the first robin is not the first robin at all. He's most likely just a robin that likes our | dre climate and has been with us Spring, Susll;mel', Fall and Winter. he advises all who have been plan- | ‘¢ ning on putting away their overcoats because they've seen a robin perkil pecking about their front lawns, to delay their decision until they get the official word on Spring from the ‘Weather Bureau. It is not unusual for a few robins, he said, to stay about Washington and | the vicinity throughout the year and | almost every thaw will bring them out in search of worms on front lawns. However, with Springtime there comes 5 a large migration of the same birds, by far the majority of the species, fly- ing with the seasons. Col. Sheldon is pretty certain it is the seasons that bring the birds and not the other way around. ~ —_— Hailstones killed 400 cattle and 2,000 shee] Transvaal recentl; 0000000000 000000000000000 MOTH HOLES BURNS — RIPS INVISIBLY MENDED 907 15th St. Met. 7375 Work Clll!d for and Delhtn‘ 0000000000000 000000000 IO 1 OKAY RADIO CO.
