TAX DEDUCTIONS -~ SCOPE IS LIMITED Rreltmmary Analysis of New Levies Disappointing in Income Circles. By the Associated Press. ‘The preliminary analysis issued by the Internal Revenue Bureau yesterday ‘wlth regard to income tax payments of arch 15 probably was disappointing many who had expected more ex- emptions. For one thing, those who had visions of being able to reduce the amount of ".heir payments by deducting from their gross income all of the taxes levied in the billion dollar tax bill were referred to the regulations which permit the in- dividual to deduct but few of the xes. ‘The only taxes which the individual ® can deduct are those he pays himself, and the remainder are deductable from gross income by the manufacturer, the importr or the person who actually pays them. Taxes are deductible from gross income in determining net in- come upon which the tax is due the Government. New Taxes on Individual. ‘The new taxes which the individual ean deduct are those on electrical en- ergy, bank checks and drafts, telephone conversations, telegraph dispatches and messages, leased wircs and talking cir- cults, admission, on leases of safe de- posit boxes, the tax on motor boats and «club dues. ‘The individual in some States can Judge Frees Her COMMITTING OFFICERS CEN- SURED BY COURT. ANNA MAY HARBER, THE EVENING KIWANIANS HONOR Bishop Freeman and E. T. Clark Speak at Exercises Held in Raleigh Hotel. Washington Kiwanians yesterday honored the memory of Calvin Coolidge at exercises in the Raleigh Hotel at which the Right Rev. James E. Free- man, Bishop of Washington, and Ed- ward T. Clark, personal secretary to President Coolidge, were the principal speakers. Bishop Freeman, describing Mr. Coolidge as the “greatest _political phenomenon since Abraham Lincoln,” said his profound interest in and un- derstanding of religion was one of his greatest characteristics. “Men like Calvin Coolidge,” Bishop Freeman said, “free from the dramatic and the spectacular, and imbued with & deep sense of spiritual understanding, *|will be the ones to lead this country out of this period of transition. Nothing is so much needed in this critical pe- riod as that type of character which Calvin Coolidge represented—of the type of men who were the early lead- ers of the country.” Mr. Clark recited many personal ex- periences of the years he served as Mr. Coolidge's personal secretary, relating Ruptured?
