APATHY 1S FUUND IDLENESS RESULT University of Vienna Studies Psychological Results of Unemployment. By Cable to The Star VIENNA, Austria, December 22— Striking evidences of tk~ psychological effect of prolonged uner dloyment are contained in a report of a joint inves- tigation just published by the Depart- ment of Psychology at the University of Vienna and the Austrian Economic Psychology Soclety. One of the investigators was Robert McMurry, a greduate of the University of Chicago, who is now studying in ‘Vienna. Psychological Effects. The report shows the familiar results of unemployment—undernutrition and lack of clothes and shelter—and then proceeds with something quite new— psychological effects. These have sel- dom been scientifically checked before, and are of great interest to the United States and other countries where an analogous situation might produce the | same results.
