DETROIT, September 30.—The Ford Motor Co. yesterday announced ‘“pay adjustments” affecting all employes of the company from the highest execu- tive down. ‘The statement said the new minimum | for common labor will be 50 cents an hour, but the majority of the factory employes will qreceive 6212 cents an hour. Company’s Statement. ‘The statement in full, said: “From the highest executive to the ordinary laborer, Ford employes will re- ceive pay adjustments, which it is hoped will be temporary, based on a reclassification of the types of work performed. “For common labor, a ‘hiring-in’ minimum of 50 cents an hour has been scheduled. The new minimum for semi- skilled labor is 62!, cents an hour. Henry Ford announced establishment of a minimum of $5 a day for his em- ployes nearly 20 years ago. This sub- sequently was raised to $6 and, in the Fall of 1929, to $7. CHARLESTON, Mo., September 30. —Two women were in serious condition today after they were shot by Mrs. Ward De Field, wife of the Mississippi | County assessor and a prominent Dem- ocratic politician in Southeast Missouri. Mrs. Rosa Rummel, 30, was taken to ro, Ill., hospital with/a wound in llu abdomen. The bullet which wound- ed her passed through the chest of her sister, Miss Myrtle Layton, who had interposed her body between Mrs. De Field and Mrs. Rummel in an effort to protect Mrs. Rummel. Miss Layton will recover. Officers said Mrs. De Field explained her act by accusing Mrs. Rummel of Leing too friendly with De Field.
