NEW YORK, September 29 —Trading in the stock market today continued in cmall volume, entirely professional, as for some time back, but with a dis- tinctly heavy appearance replacing the firmness of earlier in the week. The market opened slightly higher, with trading concentrated in a few favorites. One of these was Mcnt- gomery Ward, which touched a new year'’s high. The early buying, how- ever, soon exhausted itseif and stocks came under moderate pressure. The truth of the matter is that the market is topheavy with pools. Soms of them had been crganized in stocks which have a good statistical back- ground, but the same cannot be said of all of them. It is easy to bid prices up because there is liitle or no outside liquidation, but it is quite another mat- ter to find some one to sell them to at the higher level. Operations for the rise today went on in Pullman, in United Alrcraft, in Sim- ,|mons Co. and for a time in Chrysler. ¢ On the other hand, General Motors was rd Baking (B). .. in supply.
