Mrs. Louise McPhetridge Thaden and Mrs. Frances Harrell Marsalis, Who Te- cently stayed aloft 196 hours, establish- ing a world refueling endurance rec- ord for women, will put on a demon- stration refueling of their “Flying Boudoir” over the Capital next Sunday afternoon as the climax of a four-day visit, during which they will receive the to aviation headquarters at the Carlton Hotel, and then to the White House, where they will be received by President Hooveg, at 12:30 p.m. At 1 o'clock they will be guests of the Aero Club of Washington, chapter of the National Aercnautic Association, at luncheon in the palm room of the Willard Hotel. be the first luncheon by the club in honor of women. Thursday afternoon the women rec- ord holders will be guests of Mrs. Wal- ter Tuckerman at a tea at 4:30 o'clock in the National Woman's Country Club. The day’s program will close with din- ner and open house at the Club hu, where they will stay during their visit here. Priday morning Mrs. Thaden and Mrs. Marsalis will be officially welcomed to the Capital by Maj. Gen. Herbert Crosby, acting for the Board of Dis- trict Commissioners. The day will be devoted to sight-seeing, including an afternoon visit to Walter Reed Hospital. After a dinner given in their honor at the Carlton by Air Promotion Service they ‘will be ‘guests at a box party at the Fox Theater. An aviation dinner with Federal and civic aviation leaders will be given the visitors Saturday evening at the Club honors of the city in.recognition of | Rossdh their achievement. They are to arrive at Washington- Hoover Airport in their famous plane at 10:30 am. Thursday from New York. They will be accompanied by the re- | fueling plane which made possible their new record, with their original refueling crew, composed of Stuart Relss, former Washington fver, John Runger. Contact at 1,000 Feet. The refueling flight will be made from the airport Sunday afternoon at 2 time yet to be announced. The re- fueling contact probably will be made over the Potomac River at an altitude of about 1,000 feet, a special waiver of the 2,000-foot altitude regulation having been made for the purpose by the aeronautics branch of the Commerce Department. | This will be the first refueling con- | tact ever made by civilians over the | Capital and the second such contact in local history, the first having been made by Army personnel four years ago in trials which resulted in the first refueling record by the Army plane Question Mark at Los Angeles a few weeks later. The woman flyers and their refueling personnel will be welcomed to the Capital on their arrival Thursday by a recepiion committee headed by John S. Wynne, manager of the airport.
