1. BNDISSLES CONTNUE PSHING Foreign Group Shows Fur- ther Declines on Profit Taking. By F. H. Richardson Bpecial Dispatch to The Star NEW YORK, July 13.—Domestic| bonds were strong today, led higher by | United States Government long term obligations. The foreign list, however, was lower on continued profit taking n the German group. The market opened with a heavy tone. As it was apparent that it will be some time before the various mis- understandings of the Lausanne pact; can be cleared away and progress made | toward & debt settlement with the United States, holders of German bonds were inclined to take their profits. Young plan 5'5s sold off about 2 points, as did Dawes Reparations 7s. German Central Bank issues, German Munici- pals and industrials moved down 1 to 4 points. However, after the initial heavy accumulation of offerings was absorbed, there was a steadier tone. The rest of the European list wasy jnactive and little changed. South Americans were again heavy. Argen- tine 6s. which have recently so direct- Iy reflected developments in the wheat market that they have become known as a “grain b-nd” dropped 3 poiats on crop prospects. Brazilians were de- pressed by news of the Sao Paulo 12vo- Jution. Chileans, Peruvians and Uru- guayans eased. The outstanding development was sudden rise of 1 to 1'; points in low coupons Treasury issues. Wall Street expects passage of the bill making Treasury issues legal as backing for bank issues of currency. Since under this all Treasury issues would be eligivle, par for par. to back currency. there was a tendency to mark all Treasury bonds at a discount up to par. Treasury 3%s have advanced to within a point of par. Today attention was turned to the 3s and 3'ss. Which were still selling 5 to 6 points under the 3%s. Making Treasury issues legal for bank currency will constitute a perfect “peg” in the market and. while 1t will cause declines in the regular currency issues, such as the Panama 2s and Consol 23, it will also serve to stabilize the Gov- ernment bond market and enable the Treasury to sell large quantities of new long-term bonds at low coupons. Municipal bonds continued firm. Re- ports that New York State would shortly offer $25.000.000 of bonds proved pre- mature, though the State controller de- clared today that if the market war- ranted it the State would float between $10,000,000 to $25.000,000 of bonds in the next few months. New York State bonds have for weeks commanded a scarcity premium In the domestic corporation list the chief activity was in utility issues with foreign affiliations. American & For- eign Power 5s were up sharply, about 10 points above their 1932 low. Tre company which covered bond interest three times in the last fiscal year, Tre-| cently arranged for renewal of a $50,- 000,000 bank loan. Railroad issues | steadicd after initial weakness. L Steel Stockholders Gain.
