FINANCIAL. BONDS DEPRESSED INDRAGGY MARKET Prime lssues Firm—Death of Kreuger Reflected in :Match Securities Drop. BY F. H. RICHARDSON. @pecial Dispitch to The Star. & reactionary tone in nearly all bonds today save United States Governments and prime corporation issues. The Mst was led downward by the Kreuger group of obligations, following the sul- cide of Ivar Kreuger in Paris. Trading sn these descriptions was heavy, but elsewhere there was no apparent in- crease of offerings on the downturn. ‘The market opened lower and then steadied. International ‘Match con- vertible 5s, which were 25 bid, 46 of- fered at the start, attracted most atten- tion. They had closed at 52 Saturday. ‘The 25 bid was withdrawn, and for a time there was no bid, with the bonds offered around 43. International Match debenture 5s were off 12 points at one time. Krueger & Toll 55 had the sharp- est decline. They were down 18'% points &t 39 before any recovery set in On the rally it was apparent that the obligations of International Match here, Swedish Match ir London and Inter- national Telephone in both markets ‘were receiving support, while & Toll obligations were still weak. ‘was argued that the Kreuger & Toll securities, being those of a holding em&mi. will probably bear the brunt of the liquidation of Kreuger’s estate, while the other companies still have substantial earnings to show. Royal Dutch 4s were little affected. Swedish Government 5'5s were down 4 points at one time on fears that the disruption of Kreuger's vast plans would seriously affect the banking position of Sweden. They later recovered on as- surances that London would come to the aid of the Riksbank. German government bonds, which opened narrowly lower, later recovered all of the loss and held firm. It was taken for granted that the April 10 run-off election will see President von pollcy of nancial stebllty snd paye y and pay- ment of debts. German Oentral Bank issues were firm. German municipals had small gains. Other Europeans were little changed. Heavy stocks of old grain and lack of export the general market situation un and domestic cash markets rather dull. ‘The July delivery continues to hover around 63 cents, which it has touched 19 times in_the last 20 days and the May future ha;, l:’eld within a range gf cents for ays. 5 arish news in the form of larger farm reserves of wheat than expected fell flat as a market influence while the trade paid little attention to bullish news. Stocks of wheat rem: on farms on March 1 were about 46,000,- 000 bushels more than a year ago. Eu- rope, in the meantime, has become a persistent buyer of North American cash wheat and there was an impres- sion in the trade that the amount of American hard Winters being sold abroad were well §n excess of the figures reported. Although present dullness is not con- ducive to definite or decided market ition, emergence from the rut seems ikely if European wheat news continues favorable. Nothing new has been dis- closed in export circles and the run of domestic conditions has been more or less of a routine character. However, some believe the European demand for wheat wil] be insistent between now and late Summer. Trade in all should be affected thereby. BONDS THE CURB MARKET. ESTIC B o O}k, Low.
