The Majestic, formerly known as the Alpine Club, has been raided twice be- fore. It is across the street from the lice station and only a few doors from ocal prohibition headquariers. Cal-Neva had never before been raided. It straddles the California- Nevada Yne, with a bar and gambling es on the Nevada side and a dance on the California side $85,000 CHOICE LIQUORS SEIZED AT NEW ORLEANS Federal Agents Raid Vacant Fouse Believed to Have Been Used by Fleet. NEW ORLEANS, July 30.—Federal prohibition agents operating here today announced the seizure of $85,000 worth of choice liquors and wines stored in a vacant house in Metairie, New Orleans suburb, and said they believed the liquor was connected with the big international :lml syndicate turned up here last pril. Edward Henley, deputy prohibition administrator, reported the seizure was made without an arrest. The syndicate is alleged to have shipped a million dollars worth of whisky inland for transportation to Northern cities. Its rum fleet was di- b rected by & radio station seiztd in New Orleans. PAVLOWA’S NEW YORK ESTATE TAX EXEMPT Dancer Who Died in Holland Last January Not Resident of Em- pire State, By the Associated Press, NEW YORK, July 30.—The $381,- 587 estate left in New York by Anna Pavlowa, the dancer, who died in Hol- land last January, is exempt from taxation under the new decedents’ estate tax law which went into éffect last September, it was leained yesterday with the filing of the transfer tax appraisal. The dancer, in private life the wife of Victor Dande of London, died a non- resident of the State. An affidavit sub- mitted by Nathan G. Goldberger, ancil- lary administrator, revealed Paviowa had no residence her: and was not a citizen of the United States.
