That, at least, seems to be the case with the smartest of the late Summer costumes we have seen, and those designed for early Autumn are also more likely to reveal two or three shades and colors than one. The most obvisus way of making use of colors in dress is by means of a fig- ured material. This may show a simple geometric design in a color or shade | contrasting with the background, or it | may show a more elaborate print in which two or more colors appear in & variety of shades. For several Summers past prints of the more elaborate sort enjoyed great popularity—so much so that by the end of last Summer we had become rather fed up on that sort of thing. and were only too glad to adopt another means of satisfying our desire | | for color contrast, which fortunately ar- rived last Spring in the guise of the three-color vogue. This usually took the form of a dark, a bright and a neutral | tone—brown, orange and beige; navy blue, light bright blue and gray: black. gray and orange; navy blue, red and white; black, rose and gray. Sometimes it consisted simply of three shades of the same color—as pale, medium and dark blue or green, or beige, light brown and dark brown. - ALL these interesting three-color combinations have remained in good repute this Summer, and will con- tinue to do so, but there has been an unexpected revival of interest in prints. not only for evening and afternoon, but for daytime dresses as well. And if you are in search of a new dress to wear during August you cannot do better ‘ than to consider the usefulness of some “@reen felt hat | designed by Marcelle Lel; bgoose feathers and worn | with shaded g At the top, a hat of black che Below h brown and white Designs Show Contrast Figured Prints Rival Plain Colors in Coming: Fashions—Blends Again Are Popular for| Afternoon and Evening—Fall Styles. of the newer printed chiffons or silk crepes. | Among the newest Summer evening dresses those made of shaded chiffon | are vparticularly interesting.
