At the parlismentary inquiry into the Beauharnois power project it has been evealed by Senator Wilfrid Laurier McDougald that he had gone to Ber- ruda with Mr. King and had pald the 1.9 for their expenses coming to $852.32, thy Beauharnois Co. later refunding the wsount to him. Mr. King, then premier, led the ad- ministration that had approved of the pde of the Beauharnois Co. to divert eno%gh water from the St. Lawrence Rifer between Lake St. Louis and Lake St. Francis to provide 500,000 horse- powes. 3avs King Didn't Kwow. Mr. McDougald, however, emphasized Mr. King was not aware of any of the circumstances. Although Mr. McDougald denied using political influence in behalf of the Beau~ harnois Cq., members of the Inquiry Committee were not inclined to accept his statements. The revelations of the inquiry are the most sensational in the history of Cana- | dian politics, and Premier R. B. Ben- nett is_concerned about finding a solu- tion whereby the Beauharnois project may be comp wted. The company needs another $30,300,000 to complete its project, and # has been made difficult | to sell more tands after all these dis- closures.
