FIRST WATER RANCH, Ariz, July 22.—The furnacelike heat of the Su- perstition Mountains has brought an end to present efforts to solve the dis- appearance of Adolph Ruth, amateur prospector, of Washington, D. C. The 66-year-old man entered the des- olate range June 13 to hunt for the mythical “Lost Dutchman” gold mine. He has not been seen since. His camp was found unmolested. Rescue Party in Distress. Deputy Sheriff Jeff Adams and W. A. Barkley, cattleman, who went into the mountain fastnesses Saturday plan- ning a week’s search, sent up a smoke signal of distress, and a pack train was sent in for them yesterday. They wers found almost exhausted and reported no traces of the prospector. Son Quits Search Till Fall. Their exploration of caves and the deeper ravines, they said, was ham- pered by rattlesnakes which had taken refuge from the flerce heat. | Dr. Erwin C.
