Key, whose criticlsm of prohibition while he was in Paris as a guest of the French government started a flood of both approval and disapproval here, will be welcomed back to Atlanta by his Bible class of the Grace Methodist Church as “a great statesman and a fine Christian gentleman. The class is called “the James L. Key Bible Class,” and the mayor is its chief teacher. Indorsement of Key was given yeturdly in a rising vote of the class | after W. M. Fharr, & former presiden uld tha e know Mr. Key to be clear thinker, a great statesman and fine Christian gentleman,” and “I | lieve it is incumbent on us to show that high regard in which we hold him when he arrives in Atlanta by joining in the parade and the general acclaim.” No mention was made of Key's de- scription of prohibition as a “failure. However, G. Seals Alken, an attorney and a member of the Grace Church, of hich the mayor is also a steward, issued a siatement deploring Key's pre hibition comment as “a slander to At- |lanta.” Alken also said Atlantans were “‘disappointed in the statement of P lice Chief James Beavers that the hibition law cannot be enforced of the number of policemen hired.” On the other hand, the Atlanta Jour- nal and the Atlanta Constitution say a Democratic vice presidential boom has been started for Key by his friends. Key and the other American mayors who visited France are due to arrive in New York today, where Atlantans and the Georgia Society plan to join in the welcome. A huge parade has been ar- ranged for the mayor when he arrives here tomorrow. 80 COLORED CHURCH CONVERTS BAPTIZED {Immersion Rites Performed by Church of God Pastor in Potomac River.
