DALLAS, © Tex, June 19.—Police delved teday into the fa:ts surrounding an attack on B. P, Brown, Baptist sup- ply pastor, who was stripped, bound and hanged by the neck in his own church by four masked men early yes- terday. . : No arrests had been made. The young victim, regularly employed as a baggage clerk in a downtown hotel, blamed fac- tional strife for the incident. His in- Jjuries were slight. Saved When Rope Stretches. Brown was found dangling by a rope from a chandelier. He- told rescuing officers that he had been hanging for more than_three hours. = Stretching of the rope, however, had permitted his feet to touch a folding chair beneath him, Author of several threat letters were sought for a possible clue to the iden- tity of the assailants. Brown sald both he and the Rev. H. P. Marler, the regular preacher, had re- ceived about 15 letters in the last three | months advising them to sever their connections with the church. Marler, Brown said, was told “torture would be better than death for you.” Tells of Trouble. “We have had some trouble at the church all right,” Brown said. “Some of the members want Brother Marler to resign. They don't like me, either, but they’re going to have a hard time running me off.” ——— e WILBUR IS GRANTED EXTENSION OF LEAVE N, D.
