Hicks was charged with “unlawfully transporting and possessing 1 gallon of ardent spirits and attempting to take said ardent spirits into the county jail.” His case was continued to the iber term. Fisher pleaded guilty and was fined $50 and costs and three months suspended. Isaac Martin, Ernest Beach and Frank Steele all pleaded guilty to informations filed by the Commonwealth charging violation of the prohibition law. Martin was fined $100 and costs and three months in_jail, suspended during good behavior; Beach and Steele were each fined $50 and costs and two months sus- pended. NOKESVILLE, Va., May 26.—Fairfax, No. 1, division of the Fairfax County Dairy Herd Improvement Association was the high member in average pro- duction in April, with 651 cows, averag- ing 807 pounds of milk and 30.6 pounds Y of butter fat, according to a report of W. P. Sadler, secretary of the Virginia State Dairymen's Assoclation. The Pulaski-Montgomery Association placed second in production average with 415 cows recording 776 pounds of milk and 32.3 pounds of butter fat, while the Prince Willlam Dairy Herd Association th 691 cows averaging 757 pounds of milk and 28.1 pounds of butter fat was ranked in third place. summary of the 23 associations for April reveals that 10,611 cows were on test in 353 herds, average production of milk was 649 pounds, average butter fat was 26.7 pounds, 2,302 cows attained the honor roll with a production of 40 pounds of butter fat or more, 213 un- profitable cows were sold and 5 pure- bred bulls were bought. —e ‘The Bank of China in Shanghai has equipped two large trucks as busses for its employes.
