WOMA NS PAGCE, THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTO Sports Blouse Pocket Decoration BY MARY MARSHALL. at present. A silk crepe has a breast pocket on the Jeft side with a flap that buttons down, providing a convenient place to kcep rings when playing golf or tennis.) Sports cardigans have hip pockets at each side and some of the sports skirts have pockets at each side. One of the newest sports suits has a jack:t with four ets—two breast kets and two -pockets. A two- F:ee dress has pockets below the waist- ine on the belted overblouse. Many Tedingotes and long coats have pockets at the side, though these are usually of the purely decorative sort. One of the season’s most interesting sports dresses has box pleats introduced below the hips at the right side with a large patch pocket at the left. ‘The sketch today shows a sports blouse with a pocket decorated with coarse cross stitches. ‘The design may be worked in colored Wool or mercerized embroidery cotton. If cross stitch is done on coarse mate- rial the stitches may be spaced by fol- lowing the threads, each cross stitch extending over four or five of the threads in the material. If the matorial is fine you may find it convenient to work over cross stitch canvas, sold espe- clally for this purpose at art and needlework shops. Baste the canvas on the material where the design is wanted and work one cross stitch between each mesh or use a group of four meshes wanted. Household Methods BY BETSY CALLISTER. “Would you advise using wicker fur- niture in a rocm furnished in simple Colonial style? I am trying to get a nice Colonial effect in our living room and have two unfinished wicker chairs which I thought I could paint or stain, as I have not got enough chairs of the real Cclonial type. I have a small Oriental rug to use in the room. I cannot afford another at ~present. Would it be all right to use a plain toned rug with the Oriental? What color scheme would you suggest for the window hangings and sofa cushions?” MRS. C. L. Many intericr decorators object to th> use of any sort of wicker with Colonial, but even those who object usually admit that the effect of this | type of chair is better than a chair that is definitely of the wrong period. Personally I think the wicker chairs are a good soluticn to your problem at present. Later when you can afford to buy more chairs of the sort you want you can use the wicker ones some- where else. I would finish them with dull-finish stain so as to make them as_inconspicucus as possible. Usually the effect of an Oriental rug with a plain toned rug is not very good. Why not get a large plain toned rug for the Colonial living room —or two smaller ones that will cover the flcor—and use the Orlental rug <omewhere else? The color scheme for your cushions and window hand- ings should depend on the color of the walls and sofa cover. If you have plain toned walls of a neutral tint ycu may use chintz window hangings of one of the small Colonial type prints that harmonize with the other color in the room. If your sofa is covered with fig- ured chintz ycu had better not use chintz at the windows. Cushions on a figured sofa should be of plain tone. If the sofa is plain you may choose prints for the cushion covers. MILADY BEAUTIFUL BY LOIS LEEDS. Premature Eye Wrinkles. Dear Miss Leeds.—I wrote you sev- eral weeks ago asking your advice, but, although I have carefully watched your column in the daily papers, I have not seen your reply. I would greatly ap- iate advice from you on the fol- g: Although I am only 25 years of age, I bave recently noticed an appalling number of lines under my eyes. In the first place, are you sure that your eyes themselves are not in need of attention? Have your eyes examined by an eye specialist. Eyestrain is one of the most frequent causes of prema- ture wrinkles. Rest your eyes frequent- ly during the day by closing them for a few seconds, and bathe them two or three times daily with a weak solu- tion of salt and water, using an eye- cup for this. Another important point in the battle against eye wyinkles is sleep. Make sure that you get a suf- ficient amount of rest every night. Continual late nights are -detrimental to bealth and beauty and etch lines and dark circles under the eyes very quickly. Now for local treztments. Continue using the muscle oil &nd creams, pat- ting them in very gently with the tips of ths fingers. Let the cream remain on overnight. In the morning, after washing the face, bathe it for several minutes with cold water and pat on a little of your skin lotion. An egg mask is splendid for smooth- 1 out fine lines and wrinkles. To Y:ia this home treatment give your face the same treatment as you would for any facial—first, thorough clean- and then a light massage, using your favorite skin food or tissue cream.
