LOUIS, April 22—A former convict, Edward (Cocky) Leonard, was under arrest today as police and county authorities pushed their investigaticn into the abduct!z. "Vonday night of Dr. Isaac D. Kelley, jr., wealthy and so- | cially prominent physician, & Leonard was arrested late last night and booked as an extortion suspect and as having knowledge of Dr. Kelley's dis- appearance. He told police he knew nothing about it. Leonard was arrested in the kidnaping of Michael Katz, mil- lonaire Kansas City druggist, in March, 1930, but later released. So far as could be learned today, no demands for ransom have been received. Several anonymous telephone calls have been received by police and Dr. Kelley's family, but police placed little | eredence in any of them. One caller | told Chief of Detectives Kaiser Dr. Kel- | ley was safe in Chicago, but hung up | when Kaiser sought to question him. | Sheriff Alfred Lill of St. Louis County reported today he had obtained an ac- tual description of the kidnaping from an unnamed informant. The kidnaping, the sheriff said, occurred in suburban Clayton, where Dr. Kelley was lured by | & telephone appeal for medical aid. SAN DIEGO, April 22—A 12-hour race by the United States Coast Guard cutter Tahoe, bearing a British seaman injured in an explosion aboard a rum boat, proved futile with the death of Henry P. Jordan late yesterday. Jordan was hurned when a five-gal- lon can of gasoline exploded aboard the British boat Ruth B, about 200 miles south of here. The Ruth B. 65 feet over all, was carrying liquor from Van- couver, B. C.., to Ensenada, Lower Cali- fornia. The cutter Tahoe took Jordan aboard and averaged 17 knots an hour to reach medical aid here. was taken to a San Diego hospital.
