Special Dispatch to The Star. FAIRFAX, Va, February 28.-—The Board of Supervisors met yesterday in special sesslon o confer with Col. Keeley of Richmond, first assistant to Dr. Ennion Williams of the State Board of Health and with Dr. Grant, in charge of. medical supervision of the various health units on th: continua- tion next year of the full time health unit. The State officials strongly urged the retention of the unit by the county and pledged an increased appropriation from the State. Under the arrangement which has been In effect during the past year the State has paid $2,500, the county $5,500 and the Fairfav County Cross $1,000 and Representative Walton Moore has given $1,000. Action is Deferred. e The board deferred action until after | = the public hearing March 5 on the county budget. Col. Keeley pledged the board that if the full time health unit is continued the State will increase its appropriation to $4,250. He asked that the super- increase their appropriation to by private agencies. He stated uted that it has been difficult to work out Red Cross and State authorities, the requjrements for Red Cross nurses and for ‘State public health nurses differ- ing materially, particularly as regards welfare work. The proposed budget as published by the supervisors includes an appropria~ tion of $6,500 for public health work This increase in $1,000 was made neces- sary by the withdrawal of Mr. Moore’s $1,000. The Red Cross chapter has pledged its $1,000 again if,the money is needed to insure the continuation of the unit. If the board accepts Col. Keeley's offer, an increase over last year's expenditure of only $250 will be necessary. This is & decrease of $750 over the amount already tentatively al- lowed. Cut Would Be Mistake. Col Keeley stated that while he felt that the county would be making a seri- ous mistake in giving up the full time health unit, the Stale would agree to give $1,750 if the unit is cut to a health nurse and sanitation expert as has been urged by some members of the board. Dr. Grant -will cone to Fairfax County in the next few weeks and will make a thorough study of the health situation in Fairfax County. His report will be submitted to the supervisors for their information prior to their budget meeting. o Women's Club to Meet.
