Sulu—flu‘rd Floor “BLONDE BANDIT” ATEXECUTIONSCENE Mrs. Schroeder and Dague Arrive at Rockview to Pay Penalty for Crime. By the Associated Press. BELLEFONTE, Pa., February 21.— Their last journey at an end, Mrs. Irene Schroeder, 22, and W. Glenn Dague, 34, convicted slayers who are to die Monday morning, arrived late today at Rockview Prison, scene of Pennsylvania _electrocutions. The trip, miade by motor, was started from New Castle earlier in the day with the couple under heavy guard. The two, sentenced to pay the ex- treme penalty for the killing of ‘Corp. Brady Paul of the Highway Police De- cember 27, 1929, were taken at once to the death house. They will remain in cells near the execution chamber until summoned to begin the death march shortly before 7 o'clock Monday morning. Those in the car with the doomed couple said they had never seen Mrs. Schroeder in better spirits. Dague, while not showing the same light- hearted attitude, did not appear at all depressed. While preparations were being com- pleted for the electrocution, attaches of the penitentiary pointed out that the condemned couple would be the first to die in the electric chair on a day cele- brated as a legal holiday in Pennsyl- vania. In the past, either by accident or by design, holidays have been avolded when dates were set for the exacting of death penalties. Even in the Schroeder- Dague case, the electrocutions will not take place on the actual holiday, but on the following day which has been designated for the legal observance of ‘Washington's birthday. ‘The fact that Mrs. Schroeder will be the first woman in the history of the State to be electrocuted has resulted in concentrating public attention upon the impending event. APPEALS TO GOVERNOR. HARRISBURG, Pa., February 21 (). —Another appeal for a respite for Mrs. Irene Schroeder, 22, condemned to die | in the electric chair at Rockview Peni- tentiary Monday morning for the slay- ing of Corpl. Brady Paul on December 27, 1929, was recelved today by Gov. Pinchot. The appeal was in the form of a telegram from Judah P. Banjamin, New York City, who was chairman of | the Ruth Snyder Clemency Committee. | While Gov. Pinchot made no com- ment on the latest request for a respite, it was indicated at the Governor's office that he would not accede to Benjamin's request. Births Reported.
