SOCIETY, OCIETY Washington Society Greeted With Quiet- est New Year Celebrations Seen Here in Years Past. ABHINGTON soclety is pass- ing its quietest New Year day in years past, there being few receptions or open houses outside of hotels and elubs, while Jast evening, New Year eve, was marked by few large parties. One of the most interesting events of last night was the dance and supper party to more than a hundred guests at the Chilean embassy, with the Am- bassador and Senora de Davila as hosts. ‘Tonight the Ambassador of Italy and Nobil de Martino will entertain mem- ber§ of the embassy staff at dinner. The diplomatic breakfast in the Pan-Ameri- can Union Building was the meeting place for the entire corps at noon today, ‘when the Secretary of State and Mrs. Stimson will entertain. The Minister of South Africa and Mrs. Louw have issued cards for two at homes, Thursday afternoon, January 15, and Tuesday afternoon, January 20, from 4 to 6:30 in the legation, at 1607 Twenty-second street.
