0.1 R GROUPVISTS * DTRET HARER Milestone Placed by Wash- ington in 1792 Has Proved Elusive Point. Leaders of the Daughters of the American Revolution made plans today to preserve the will-o'-the-wisp of the 40 milestones imbedded in mother earth under the direction of George Washing- ton to mark the boundaries of the Dis- trict. Rediscovery of the elusive marker was verified yesterday by a delegation of members of the patriotic organiza- tion who journeyed to the storm-swept spot on the banks of the Potomac River opposite Jones Point, where the stone ncw rests. ‘The marker is on a farm near Oxon Hill, Md, owned by St. Elizabeth's Hospital. It is located so close to the edge "of the stream and on Such low ground that the murky waters of the Potomac _frequently obscure it from view. It bears the inscription: “Juris- diction of the United States, Miles 8, 201 P (poles).” The milestone was found recently by Miss Jane Bassett, dan employe of the State Department and a member of the D. A. R. It originally was discovered by others more than a quarter of & century ago. The marker was placed in 1792. Among the members of the party who viewed the milestone yesterday were Mrs. J. Pranklin Little, regent of Po- tomac Chapter; Mrs. H. H. Thompson, former State historian: Mrs. Grace Porter Hopkins, State publicity chair- man; Miss Helen Harman, State regent; Miss Katrina Harvey, State historian, and Mrs. Donald E. Earll, State mile- stone chairman. TARDIEU WEARS WHITE VEST OF BOURGEOISIE Appears in Public Attired in Tradi- tional Garb of France's «Upper Class.” PARIS () —Premier Andre Tardieu has declared himself a “bourgeois” by wearing a white vest. He wore it first, with a formal cut- away coat, at a meeting at Nancy, in Lorraine. It was considered significant, because the white vest was regarded as a sort of distinguishing mark, set- ting him apart from the Socialists and ‘Radical-Socialists. Those class-conscious politicians wouldn't be caught dead in a white west They deem it too aristocratic. Anyway, the premier’s white vest has taken on political significance, and hav- ing started to wear one, he may have tied himself' up to a lifelong laundry under the direction of George Washi Oxon Hill, Md. This marker of the District of Columbia boundary line, one of 40 set up ington, was found recently on a farm near o THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON. D. O, FRIDAY,” NOVEMBER 7, 1930. REPTILE FIGHTERS STALL Blacksnake Clinches With Rattler Before Kentucky Audience. PIKEVILLE, Ky. (N.AN.A) . —A bat- tle between snakes proved about as ex- citing as the average prize fight. “Samp- son” a rattler and “Sambo,” uncrowned king of the blacksnakes, were pitted against each other in what was adver- tised as “the most terrific snake battle of the cemm?." A crowd of 330 citizens attended and watched the referee throw the fighters out of the ring after a farcical roand. Sampson clipped Sambo under the chin (snakes have chins) for the first blow of the bout and Sambo took the Chicago count, 30 minutes. Sambo was awakened after a while and the rattler immediately clamped his fangs on him. Sambo clinched and refu: to fight any more, The referee declared it no contest.
