The Washington Catholic Radio Hour | "has engaged for its November series of sermons a preacher who is perhaps | the most noted Catholic pulpit orator in the East, Very. Rev. Smith, O. P. He is stationed at the Dominion House of Studies, in this city, and also is a member of the Catholic University faculty. Father Smith's talks on the Wash- lnltan Catholic Radio Hour will be broadcast from the Immaculate Co ception Church every Sunday after- noon at 5 o'clock by Station WOL., He has chosen for his discourses ques- tions that are today uppermost in the mind of the man on the street. “Souls” His Topic Tomorrow. ‘Tomorrow the sermon will deal with *“Souls"—the existence and destiny of the soul; the salvation of the soul; re- incarnation; appearance of souls and spirits; spiritism and spiritualism. His subject on November 9 will be “Believers”—the nature of faith; the need of faith; the happiness of belief; the proof of faith. For November 16 Father Smith has chosen “Scoffers”—infidels and agnos- tics: the new paganism: bigots: pers cution of the Catholic Church; the mi ery of unbelief. Hll subject on November 23 will be "—political hypocrites; re- n‘ioua hypocrites; professing and pra ticing; moral cowards; religious trai- tors, The concluding sermon, on No- vember 30, will be “Liberals.” Because of the large number antici- ited, there will be no reserved pews at services. Lourdes Devotions Scheduled. ‘The service tomorrow will include special Lourdes devotions before the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the church. There will be a solemn Lourdes procession, made up of 26 friars of the Atonement, sanctuary boys in blue and white cassocks and over 60 high school girls in white. ‘The blessing of the sick, which is a special features of the original Lourdes devotions, will take place during the ion. St. Thomas' Church observed All Saints’ day this morning with holy eu- charist at 11_o'clock, but due proximity to Sunday the dedication of in memoriam gifts and thanksgiving offerings will take place tomorrow at 11 o'clock. This year there will be an unusual number of gifts to dedicate, the principal gift being a chapel on the north side of the church in memory of Admiral B. F. Hutchison, given by Mrs. Hutchison; on the north side of the church a_window in memory of Col. William Baird, given by Mrs. Baird, and a legacy of $1,000 for the endow- ment of his pew, bequeathed by Thomas P. Morgan. The parish will hold a rummage sale at 1107 Connecticut avenue from No- vember 3 to 8, inclusive. Mrs. R. H. A. Carter, Mrs. P. B. Fenlon and the Rec- tor's Aid are assisting in it. Next Sunday the rector of St. Thomas’ Parish, Dr. C. Ernest Smith, will have completed 28 years of rector- ship. He will preach a special sermon reviewing the past. Charles M. Plans for the work of the coming year will be outlined and a general discus- sion of important affairs will take place. To add interest to the meeting, the members of the Altar Guild will have an exhibition of the new venments that have been % urchased during the year, including a handsome cope.
