Miss Pacheco, who is the house guest | of her uncle and aunt, the first secre- tary of the Panama legation and Senora de Chevalier, in the Portner, is an complished musician and presented a delightful group of Spanish and Italian songs. She was gowned in a charming costume of white net and hand-made lace, cut low over the shoulders in the style of a Southern belle of 1860, with | long, full skirt, worn over many fine | petticoats of real lace, which had been | the property of her great-grandmother. ; Both costume and quaint Panama jewel- | 1y, many gold chains, large jeweled ear- | rings and jeweled hair ornaments are heirlooms. At carnival time all the young maidens of Panama are so garbed | for the festival. | Miss Pacheco was one of six young | girls, three Americans and three Pana- manians, invited to. the official dinner given to Gen.
