B—4 LATIY ATIONS PAY HONOR O PERUVAN Private Funeral Service Is Held for Senor Buenavista at St. Patrick’s. Representatives of nearly all the Latin American republics paid their last re- spects yesterday to one of their col- leagues, the late J. Alvarez de Buena- vista of Peru. In the absence of many members of the Capital’s official circles during the Midsummer weeks, a private service was held for the first secretary of the Peruvian embassy, whose death last - Saturday followed an éperation for an intestinal disorder, from which he had suffered for several years. Many Attend Church Service. Representatives of the Pan-American Union, State Department officials and others were among the friends of Senor Buenavista who attended the low mass said for him in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Many of his former colleagues accompanied the body to Mount Olivet Cemetery, where temporary interment was made pending receipt of instruc- 2om from relatives as to final disposi- jon. The three sisters who survive Senor Buenavista are in Europe and Argen- tina. The last rites for the late em- bassy official were arranged by Ambas- sador Manuel De Freyre y Santander, who only recently arrived and relieved Senor Buenavista of his duties as charge d'affaires, ad interim, and by Dr. Santiago F. Bedoya, fellow first secretaries. s Dr. Bedoya Returns to New York. Dr. and Senora De Bedoya returned to New York immediately after the funeral, where Dr. Bedoya is in charge ©of the Peruvian consulate pending ap- pointment of a new consul there. Senor Buenavista’s body was accom- panied to the church and cemetery by a motor cycle police escort. Wreaths from the Pan-American Union and other groups and individuals surrounded the casket. Senor Buenavista was first secretary from 1927 until his death and came to Washington first in 1917 as second secretary.
